Cap and Gown Information
Registering for cap and gown
First, make sure you have applied to graduate through the Student Hub. To learn more about Applying to Graduate or Viewing your Application to Graduate click here.
Click here to order your cap and gown. If you recently applied to graduate through the Student Hub, please allow at least a week before placing an order.
If you are a combined major, you will only receive the tassel associated with your home college. If you would like a second tassel for your second college, you can pick it up on campus at cap and gown pick up. However, we cannot guarantee you a second tassel as there is a limited quantity.
What’s included
Regalia consists of a mortarboard cap, gown, and tassel. Graduate and doctoral students will also receive a hood for their degree. All regalia are complimentary and students can keep them after the ceremonies.
Mortarboard caps are the appropriate ceremonial headwear for all degree programs. At Northeastern University, tams are given exclusively to Doctor of Philosophy graduates.
Students receiving academic honors
Undergraduate students receiving academic honors of a 3.5 GPA or above will get a gold cord that can be worn during the ceremony. These will be available in Solomon Court during the open cap and gown pick-up days and times.
International flags
Northeastern’s graduation is a celebration of our diverse and global graduating class. Graduates are invited to wave a small, handheld flag that carries significance for them at their graduation ceremony. Flags are optional and not required. For safety purposes in walking into the ceremony with the flags, we ask graduates to order no more than three flags. Information on how to order your flags will be communicated in your ceremony/celebration registration. Please note that the flags you select will only be available for pick up at your campus during designated cap & gown distribution times. Please send any questions to [email protected].

Boston
Cap and gowns can be picked up in Solomon Court, Cabot Center during these dates and times:
Friday, April 26: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 27: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 28: CLOSED
Monday, April 29: 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, April 30: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, May 1: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, May 2: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Friday, May 3: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 4: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Cap and gowns for College of Professional Studies students can also be picked up in Solomon Court, Cabot Center on:
Tuesday, May 7: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Charlotte
Students choosing to pick up their regalia from campus will be notified upon its arrival.
Please coordinate your pickup time at the Charlotte campus with [email protected].
London
Postgraduate students can get their gowns and caps from the Ede & Ravenscroft website. You will need your student ID and surname to login. Please note that your student ID is not the number in your email address. The deadline for academic dress hire is February 6th, 2024.
Apprentice and Multiverse students will be contacted in the new year about their academic dress. Please look out for an email from the graduation team in January.
On the day of the ceremony, gowns will need to be returned by 16:00 in The Garden Room. There will be a gown drop off point.
Oakland, Mills College at Northeastern
Cap and gown pick-up will be in the Student Union.

- April 30: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- May 1: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- May 2-3: 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- May 4-5: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Silicon Valley
Cap and gown pick-up will be at the Welcome Center, SV Campus on these dates and times:
Monday, April 29th through Friday, May 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
Toronto
Regalia Pick Up Dates: Sunday May 12 – Friday May 17. Please sign up for your pick up slot.
You will be able to pick up your:
- Cap and Gown
- Flags (if ordered)
- Donor Medal and Chord (if donation made prior to April 30th)
All students must have their NUID (Husky Cards) to pick up regalia and students who have completed their courses are asked to return their building access cards.
